out of character.
NAME Audrey.
AGE Eighteen.
TIME ZONE Eastern Time.
CONTACTS I don't have AIM, but my MSN & e-mail is roman.holiday@live.ca
EXPERIENCE The majority of the games I was involved in have been deleted, but I've been doing Harry Potter roleplays for around four years. Hannah is usually who I play, but I'll sometimes take up Zacharias Smith or Blaise Zabini.

in character.
NAME Hannah Cecelia Abbott.
AGE & BIRTHDAY Seventeen. June 29, 1980.
HOUSE Hufflepuff.
FAMILY Mother: Mariana Abbott [deceased]
Father: Henry Abbott.
Sisters: Emily & Rosalind Abbott.
AFFILIATION It's hard to imagine Hannah being anything other than staunchly anti-Voldermort. For one thing, Voldemort's genocidal ideas don't sit very well with her at all. The mere thought of looking down upon others because of something as uncontrollable as bloodlines goes against everything she believes in. How on earth could you condemn a person without even getting to know them? The supercilious attitudes held by the majority of pureblood families was bad enough without Voldemort giving a voice-- or a wand, I should say-- to them. Going to such barbaric measures as trying to wipe away the existence of a group of people like an undesireable stain on one's robes is completely unjustifyable as well as despicable. Hannah's strong morals and need to at least try to change the horrific situation that the wizarding world is currently submerged in lead her to the D.A in her 5th year. As far as Hannah's concerned, Harry is far more qualified for a leadership position in these tumultuous times than the innefective officials of the Ministry.

HISTORY Mariana Wright and Henry Abbott met in arguably the most bizarre circumstances ever, at least that's how they like to preface their fast paced bedtime tale. In actuality, the story is far less strange than they told their children. When you get rid of the fabrications like getting lost in the desert without their wands or Henry saving Mariana from a mummy, you're left with an encounter that is more sweet than anything else. As Hannah grew older, the real happenings interested her much more than the "slightly tweaked" version. She thinks it's just so romantic! Her younger sisters, however, favour the action-packed alternative. Hannah would tell you that they just aren't old enough to understand that true love doesn't need to be shellacked with adventure or anything for that matter. It shines well enough on it's own!

Although Mariana and Henry both attended Hogwarts, they weren't even acquainted with each other. Henry was a boisterous Gryffindor while Mariana was a quiet Ravenclaw with her head permanently stuck in some book or another. The few opportunities they had to speak to each other were never taken advantage of and so they remained unknown to each other for the entirety of their schooling. Henry's pureblood family did not believe in any of that "purifying the wizarding race" nonsense, but he still didn't get on very well with them. They wanted their son to take on a stuffy Ministry position and Henry wanted nothing to do with their plan. Ever since his career advice session in his OWL year, Henry had his heart set on being a curse-breaker for Gringott's. He was well-suited for the career, being both excellent at Arithmancy and adventurous by nature. He wanted to go to Egypt and break as many curses as humanly possible. After graduation, Henry found himself doing exactly that. He quickly learned that despite his parent's insistence that there was no need to ever take a step out of Britain, he was having an amazing time. Mariana, someone far less likely to go off to a foreign land, ended up working as a Healer in a hospital in Cairo. She tended to many patients, many of whom were curse-breakers. One day in March, a man of the aforementioned occupation was put in her care for some burns acquired from an emerald necklace. He had even more reckless bravado than the others she had come to know, seeing as he had gone after the necklace after he was expressly told not to by his supervising goblin. He asked her whether she thought he had broken the curse or not and she replied with an honest "No." Henry then pulled the necklace out of his robes with a triumphant grin and Mariana proceeded to scold him, though secretly she was extremely impressed.

As you can guess, Henry found absolutely any reason to get himself to the hospital, even if it meant making elementary errors that he would never usually make. His suspicious behaviour caused his friends to investigate. They immediately found the reason behind all his injuries when they spotted a pretty Healer chatting with him. At the risk of losing his job, as he had really begun to irritate his superiors, Henry continued his ploy. Mariana had caught on a long time before, but decided that she enjoyed his company. Henry was as persistent as he was foolhardy and eventually he got what he wanted--Mariana's hand in marriage. Settling down in Britain was a joint decision, because they both wanted children and agreed that Hogwart's was the best place for a young mind. Henry got a desk job at Gringott's in London and Mariana began Healing at St. Mungo's. They bought a nice home in a small wizarding community just outside of Canterbury in Kent. It was a far cry from the hustle and bustle of Cairo, but they came to love it just as much. With their sizeable bit of property and cozy house, they were a few kids and a white picket fence away from familial bliss. The swing hanging from an old oak in their backyard was just waiting for a daughter or son to sit on it and the newlyweds couldn't wait to give their child a good push.

Hannah Cecelia Abbott was the answer to their prayers. Born on a splendid afternoon in late June, she was healthy and perfectly on time. She gave a fraction of the pain to her mother that her two younger sisters would during delivery and was always laughing or smiling after she was born, foreshadowing her sunny disposition. Henry and Mariana Abbott were delighted with their Hannah and took pride in her baby talk, her stumbling first steps, and everything that came along with a child. It would be safe to say that they loved her more than anything else in the world. Never lacking in love and attention, Hannah continued to be very happy as she grew older. She was far from spoiled, however and her parents made sure that they instilled in her the morals that she carries with her to this day. She was taught to be accepting of people from all walk's of life, to work hard, and to treat everyone how she would like to be treated. Hannah took these lessons very seriously and was sweet to everyone. She, like many other witches and wizards, was home-schooled. Being quite bright, she enjoyed soaking up new knowledge, but that's not to say she didn't like running around or going on the swing. When she was nearly five years old, her sister Emily was born. Hannah took to her immediately and always asked to help feed and dress her. She was even enchanted with changing her nappies. By the time Emily turned one, the final addition to the Abbott family arrived and Hannah was presented with the honour of naming her newest sister. She decided on Rosalind from the Shakespeare play her mother had read to her- As You Like It. Hannah may not have understood the story very well, but she adored the heroine's name. The process of caring for her baby sister was repeated with just as much enthusiasm and she didn't forget to keep playing with Emily. Years passed happily in their home and it was soon time for Hannah to go to Hogwart's.

At the age of eleven, Hannah was dreading Hogwart's. She had heard nothing but good things about it, but she couldn't bear to leave her close-knit family. Who would sneak Emily some sweets before dinner? Who would help Rosalind acquire a complete Chocolate Frog card collection? These questions spun around in her head at a dizzying speed as she was forced to go to Platform nine and three-quarters. The almost always good-natured Hannah entered the Hogwart's Express in a huff. It was in her compartment that she met Ernie Macmillan. With all the trading of Chocolate Frog cards and talk of amazing spells they would learn, Hannah had gotten out of her bad mood and was now looking forward to school. That is until she was ushered into the castle to wait before Sorting. The majority of the tittering first years were nervous, but Hannah who was prone to anxiety, was having a panic attack. What if the Hat latched onto her head and pulled her brain out? And she was one of the first to be sorted, as well! It was only with the encouragement of Ernie and another boy she had met, Justin, that she was able to resist the temptation to run in the opposite direction of the stool when her name was called. She took a deep breath and hoped for the best, as she placed the battered old Sorting Hat on her head. It spoke quietly to her, listing her qualities. Her idealism made her a good candidate for Gryffindor, and her intelligence for Ravenclaw, but Hufflepuff was definitely best suited for someone as hard-working and just as she. Relieved that the experience wasn't as scary as she had imagined it, Hannah walked over to the Hufflepuff table where she was welcomed with open arms. Susan Bones was sorted shortly afterwards and they sat next to each other. When Ernie and Justin were sorted into the same house as she was, Hannah was pleased as punch! The mouth-watering feast made things all the better.

Her first year at Hogwarts was obviously new and exciting to her. She was known to many older students as the pig-tailed blonde girl who grinned even when she got her foot stuck in one of the many trick-steps. Her lessons fascinated her and, with the exception of Professor Snape, Hannah thought all her professors to be quite nice. Herbology, Charms, and Astronomy interested her most, but she studied hard for everything. Quite hopeless at flying, Hannah quickly lost the romanticized idea of her playing Seeker for her House team. All she managed to achieve during the Hufflepuff Quidditch team tryouts was a broken bone that Madame Pomfrey mended in a second. She wasn't too interested in the game to begin with, but she could usually be found in the stands during games, cheering on her house. Everything was great except for the few times Professor Snape made her cry, her anxiety towards a lot of her school work, and of course the strange occurrences surrounding the famous Harry Potter near the end of the year. When she found out what had happened, Hannah could hardly believe it! She hadn't noticed a thing (and Mr. Quirrell had seemed so sweet!), but she was so glad that Harry, Hermione, and Ron were safe. The end of year feast meant that there wasn't much time for Hannah to get upset over the fact that the exams she had been preparing herself for, that she had stressed over were cancelled. Her family went to Egypt for the summer holidays and she brought back little gifts for her friends.

In contrast to the previous September, Hannah was happy to get back to school. She had read up a lot on Potions, which was by far her worst class. Despite her studying, she didn't feel very prepared, especially when she thought of Professor Snape's sneering face. She was, however, ready for the rest of her classes. Most of all, she couldn't wait to see her friends again. While many of the girls at Hogwarts giggled over Professor Lockhart, the new self-obsessed Defense Against Dark Arts professor, but Hannah thought him quite silly and found herself fancying Cedric Diggory instead. He was so kind and smart! And handsome, too. She quickly forgot about Cedric, though, after all the poor Muggle-borns who were Petrified. At the Duelling Club, Harry had spoken Parseltongue and almost everyone was convinced that he was the Heir of Slytherin. Hannah found it a bit hard to believe, but after Ernie pointed out that he had told the snake to harm Justin, she found herself to be unsure. It had seemed like Harry was egging the snake on, but she couldn't say for certain. Ernie's idea was cemented, however, when Justin was added to the list of Petrified students. Hannah, who was already upset with what was going on was completely devastated. He was one of her best friends! She had nothing to do but let go of the idea that Harry was a nice person. Looks were deceiving, as Ernie constantly told her. Her first instinct was proven right, however, when Hermione Granger was Petrified. Harry would never do that to his best friend. Then he played the hero once again, saving little Ginny Weasley, who had been taken into the Chamber of Secrets. All was well again! Hannah went home emotionally exhausted, but experienced another amazing summer, despite her fretting about the courses she had selected-- Arithmancy and Care of Magical Creatures.

Her third year went by similarly to her first two years, but her fourth year was completely different. The Triwizard Tournament had roused a lot of excitement at Hogwarts. Hannah was pleased when Cedric was chosen by the Goblet of Fire, because he was, in her opinion, a good role-model and the best Hufflepuff had to offer. The whole school was talking when Harry, who was too young to participate, was given the apparently unwanted distinction of being the fourth selection. Like everyone else, Hannah watched all the tasks with amazement. Harry was quite impressive, especially that bit of flying he did to get the golden egg, but Hannah wore a badge supporting Cedric. She was so proud that someone from Hufflepuff, her own house, was doing so well! If he won, it would show everyone not to simply dismiss Hufflepuffs. When Cedric was killed by Voldemort, it was a huge turning point in Hannah's life. She had never experienced the death of someone she knew before, and although they weren't very close, Hannah did look up to and fancy him quite a bit. It was at the end of fourth year that she realized that things were getting really bad, that Voldemort was indeed back. Things would never quite be the same. One of the few happy things to happen in fifth year was that Hannah was appointed prefect along with her best friend, Ernie. She was very proud of her accomplishment and took her duty seriously, never missing her rounds. Hannah also joined the D.A. in fifth year and stuck with it, going against the horrible Professor Umbridge. Her OWL exams were marked with a lot of anxiety. Hannah began to doubt her abilities and she had frequent panic attacks, like the one in Herbology class where she sobbed that she was too stupid to take exams and that she wanted to go home. It was during her practical OWL, however, that she had her hugest nervous breakdown to date. She accidently turned her ferret, which she was supposed to vanish, into a flock of flamingos. Hannah is still completely embarrassed and would really prefer that no one bring it up. After that experience, she has learned to cope with her stress a lot better.

Throughout her years at Hogwarts, Hannah has had to face a lot of challenges, but the most life-altering event for her happened in her sixth year. Her mother was found dead in Canterbury, the town nearest to her home. She was killed by a Death Eater, who probably remembered her from Hogwart's and thus knew she was a Muggle-born. Although the recent deaths had made Hannah quite sad, she had never sunk into a pit of depression. Now, however, with the closest person to her murdered, she was hit hard. Hannah was brought home for mourning and she spent nearly all of her time crying in her bedroom. It was so wrong. While the decent people of the wizarding world felt sorry that such a capable witch had been murdered, it was the Abbott household that was now missing a mother and a wife. Needless to say, Hannah simply wanted to stay home. How could she face the world after the person she held so dear had been snatched away from her? Eventually, she decided it was best to go back to Hogwart's, because laying around at home wouldn't make her feel any better. When she returned to Hogwart's, she continued to lock herself off from everybody, even Ernie and Justin. It took a while before she was able to pick herself up and keep going. Hard as it was, Hannah is happy she was able to muster the determination. Now, in the summer before her seventh year, she feels that she has the strength to overcome anything.

PERSONALITY Whether you take a liking to Hannah or not, one thing everyone can agree on is that she is sweet. Some find her genuine good-will to be endearing, while others think her cavity-inducing. The fact of the matter is that Hannah is a philanthropist. She always approaches people with a thoughtfulness and magnanimity that few others can match. Hannah tries to lives by Plato's words: "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." Equipped with an immense supply of patience, she likes to give others the benefit of the doubt. In her house, Hannah is regarded as something of a mother hen. She can never rest peacefully without helping out to the best of her ability. Her strong maternal instincts make her a great listener and it is quite common to see her in the common room counselling a friend in need. After all, who couldn't benefit from a reassuring hug and some biscuits? Hannah takes it upon herself to make sure everyone is doing well and though she tries not to take offence when her advice is rejected, it really does hurt her. While she doesn't exactly see the world through rose-coloured glasses, Hannah could rightly be described as being on the optimistic side of realism. More often than not, the glass is half full, and even when its half empty, there has to be some way to fill it back up again! There are few things she loves more than offering encouragement and support. She's a clear-cut extrovert, chiefly preferring the company of others to being alone. For someone so in tune to her surroundings, Hannah has the strange inability to take a hint when someone doesn't want to be around her. If she's not told explicitly, she'll soldier on with affable conversation. Her trouble sensing awkwardness may be the reason that she has less friends than you might guess. Add to that her very toddler-esque way of socialising with someone for the first time and it's not hard to see why people can view her as being childish. It's actually takes a conscious effort for her not to seize someone's hand and say "Are we friends now?!" or make a multi-coloured friendship bracelet to mark the occasion. She can be rather gullible, too. Contrary to popular belief, there is much more to Hannah Abbott than her sympathetic and gentle nature.

Hannah is hard-working to a fault, constantly striving to improve herself. She'll put all her energy into her very long list of responsibilities and rarely complain. The good and bad side of this quality can be seen in her manner of handling schoolwork. Ever since first year, Hannah has pushed herself to (and sometimes beyond) her absolute limits. She takes her education very seriously and though she is a naturally bright girl, Hannah is not a genius. She doesn't really want to be slaving over that horrid Potions essay, especially when it's nice and warm out, but her strong sense of self-discipline never lets her off the hook. A lot of the time, however, she enjoys working on her various assignments. Charms, Herbology, Astronomy, and Arithmancy are easily her strongest classes, but instead of slacking off, Hannah sets her goals even higher. If she finds something interesting, putting in extra time shouldn't even be a challenge. Potions was what really frustrated her. She could never brew her elixirs quite right with Professor Snape around and as silly as it may seem, Hannah is still completely frightened by that drafty dungeon. Though Hannah is happy she doesn't have to prepare for the Potions exam anymore, she went through her fair share of nervous breakdowns when she did. Hannah can be a very high-strung individual and none of the kind words she offers to nervous first years seem to work on her. To make matters worse, she has a tendency to spread herself too thin, stocking up on as many Prefect rounds and extracurricular activities as she can. This can lead to late nights and Hannah is usually on edge the next morning. Exams are understandably a source of fear for her. Nightmares with various teachers gasping at her insufficiency are not exactly rare in Hannah's world, but she's trying to keep her academic distress far, far away from public view after the "flamingo fiasco".

Responsible and loyal are two words that have a place in Hannah's repertoire. She has had a strong sense of duty from childhood and is the exact opposite of flighty. Leading youngsters in the right direction is something she does with a cheerful smile. You can depend on Hannah to serve as a good role-model, because she truly understands the benefit of having someone to look up to. She may not have much spontaneity, but being an example of good behaviour is something that really appeals to her. Far from the jaded teen, Hannah refuses to simply not care. She doesn't see how feigning apathy makes someone cool. If she's forever condemned as a loser because of her love of community service, then so be it! It wasn't surprising in the least when Hannah got the badge in fifth year, because she had shown herself to be more than prepared for the task. Although one might dismiss Hannah as being a bad authority figure because of her kindness, she does a surprisingly good job of keeping people in line. She will not tolerate bullying of any kind, but as far as offences like staying out too late go, Hannah can be quite lenient. Trusting people comes naturally to her, but if someone shows her that they are not worthy of the privilege, she has no qualms revoking it. Admittedly, the amount of betrayals she is willing to put up with is significantly greater than your average person. She toes the line between being a pushover and just being understanding. Most importantly, Hannah has undying loyalty for her friends and family. She is extremely protective of others, especially those who are close to her. Anyone who so much as tries to harm Ernie or Justin, for example, would get to see the rarely displayed side of Hannah's persona. That side is angry and perhaps, if pushed enough, violent. It may take a lot to get her to the stage where she wants to injure someone, but once Hannah's there, the person has a death threat. For someone of her size and disposition, she can be remarkably vicious.

Overall, Hannah is a young woman who is both practical and affectionate. She has her shining qualities and her flaws, like everyone else. The death of her mother has really shaken her up, but in the end, it has made her even more determined to fight for what she believes in. She's grown a lot as a person over the years and hopefully her seventh year will serve as a mix between a continuation of her old goals and a fresh beginning to strike the balance she needs in her life.

APPEARANCE With her medium-length blonde hair, usually secured in her trademark pigtails, and bright blue eyes, Hannah is what you might proclaim "cute as a button" or even pretty. While she may not be likened to Helen of Troy, Hannah has a definite sweet look to her, especially her beaming smile and rosy cheeks. She stands at a short 5'2", making her the kind of girl you just want to pick up. When you consider her love of chocolate biscuits and lack of physical activity, her frame has not suffered very much. Although Hannah hasn't lost all of her baby fat, she's pleasantly curvy with an ample bust and well-formed hips. Let it be noted that she has excellent posture and never slouches. She always makes sure to keep herself looking neat, believing that presentation is rather important. Outside of Hogwarts, plain colours and a few choice prints make up her wardrobe, which is neither stunning nor bereft. Hannah rarely dresses up, finding elaborate clothing to be very uncomfortable. Even if she did relish in the ornate, she'd never really have an occasion to wear it. Also, it would be even harder to divert attention from the parts of her body which she is still a bit self-conscious about. For the most part, however, Hannah is content with her appearance and carries herself with an admirable grace.

PLAYED-BY Emma Rigby.
WRITING SAMPLE THEY TOOK MY BADGE I was really looking forward to continuing my Prefect duties in my last year at Hogwart's, as many of you know. When I got the letter telling me I wasn't going to be able to, I could hardly believe it. I like to think I did a good job with my rounds and I never abused my power. I certainly could've done more to improve myself and I was planning to get a proper homework club in place for the impressionable young students! What have I done to deserve this? What really gets my blood boiling is that their justification for forcibly removing me from my position is that I'm a Hufflepuff! Those horrid people! Silly house stereotypes were the basis of their decision... What could be more unjust? And apparently the Gryffindor Prefects have received similar letters.

I think it's safe to say they are mad. Absolutely out of their minds! And I'm the one unfit to be a Prefect?! How dare they! I was nothing but helpful and kind. PERHAPS IF I HAD BEEN SORTED INTO RAVENCLAW THEY I'm worried. Very worried. What kind of rules will be put in place after this one? Hufflepuffs banned from the Great Hall, Gryffindors chastised for breathing? I wouldn't be surprised if they just locked me up in my dormitory and never let me out! And put blackout paper on my windows! They might as well, because they have stolen one of the few bright spots in my life right now. I bet my Chocolate Frog collection that those horrid Carrows and Professor Headmaster Snape are laughing about it right now. Poor little Hannah Abbott! Their Death Eater friends murdered my...

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go fume do something more productive. I didn't mean to go into this whinging rant. My apologies.

[tears stain the page]

1. Mariana Abbott was murdered last year and Hannah is still coming to terms with that. The number one challenge she faces is keeping her chin up and not shutting herself off from her friends.

2. As small as it sounds in comparison to her other problems, Hannah is quite upset that she lost her badge. She needs to realise that the prefecture has lot much of its integrity since Hufflepuffs and Gryffindors were stripped of their titles.

3. I can see her getting into a fight with Ernie... over something? I'm not completely sure about this one, but it'd probably be one of the few spats they've ever had.
